Chroma Scrub is the first piece in a series that I am going to be working on. I was experimenting with a new way to output and outsource my designs through laser cutting/engraving. With this I took one of my bubble textures, put it into grayscale, indexed it down to 22 grays, and split them into five layers by the lights to the darks with some overlap. I cut an 8”x8” octagon out of those layers and had them engraved onto acrylic panels that I sandwiched together inside of a laser cut plywood frame. The frame was designed and constructed to house the acrylic panels and filter the lights of the LED tape through the engraved layers. Using RGBIC LEDs I’m able to change the colors and set up animated light sequences controlling each of the 15 light groupings, creating an interactive and comforting lighting design.
